My wife and I are avid cinephiles. Watching films - at the cinema, on cable, from a DVD/Video - is our preferred form of distraction. I sometimes wonder if I am making up for my childhood. I can only recall going to the cinema maybe 20 times before graduating high school. My parents did not get a VCR until I was 14, and rentals were expensive. Cable television was a myth. We were lucky to get a fifth local channel depending on reception.

Because of time and money, we watch the majority of films at home on DVD. You can buy DVDs for $20 or less and watch it whenever you want in the comfort of your home, plus DVDs have resale value, special features, etc. With a small child, making the trip to the cinema is now even more difficult.

I have made some comments on the most recent films I have watched. I give each film a rating from 1 to 10 - where 10 is the best - using the same scale as the Internet Movie Database. I keep a complete list of my movie votes on a separate Cinema Page. In the end, it is about entertainment and escapism.
