To-Do

  • Ergonomic workstation review with Eric McHugh - scheduled 22 Mar 2006.

  • Need console map for ROC. Will use floor plan as a template. The node designations are on top of the PC towers. I would like to add labels to the monitors too. Assign specific monitoring activities to nodes.

  • Cannot telnet from Windows laptop with WRQ Reflection 11.0 to CMS UAF cluster without cryptocard. Connection refused by host. Tried direct access nodes cmswn051 through cmswn055. Helpdesk suggests I upgrade to WRQ 12.0 before trying anything else.

  • Update ITNA from ES&H page. Kaori needs a supervisor password (request from Martha Heflin), and then needs to complete a 60-80 question form to determine which training I need for current job.
Pending

  • 2006-03-21: Submit requisition for new table for the ROC. Same style, 24"x72" dimensions, no modesty panel. Need Kaori's signature.

  • 2006-03-21: Submit requisition to vendor VPI for 17 additional KVM extender cables for the ROC. Need Kaori's signature.

  • 2006-02-28: Submitted requisition for ROC file server. Patrick worked up a bid from Koi Computers for about $6k. Includes three years on-site parts and labor.

  • 2006-02-14: Big screen TV for the ROC. Yurii Maravin from Kansas State Univ has ordered a 42 inch Westinghouse LCD Monitor. Estimated delivery is two weeks to KSU, and another week or so to Fermilab.

Done

  • 2006-03-18: New Dell laptop in transit. Requisition for new laptop - Dell Inspiron 6000 was submitted on 3 Feb 2006. Follow-up on 28 Feb 2006, Terry Read sent a "High Priority" email to push the requisition to purchasing.

  • 2006-03-13: Received one 25 ft computer extension cable (video, keyboard, mouse) for the ROC, and video quality is unaffected. We want to move all the PC towers behind the false wall to provide more leg room under the tables and to improve the look of the ROC. Patrick and I worked out the numbers and lengths. We need a total of 18 cables in lengths from 15 to 35 ft.

  • 2006-03-08: Received electronic copy of ROC Floor Plan from Lisa Carrigan. Autocad drawing was done by vendor. Lisa updated with a current ROC configuration. Linked to ROC web page.

  • 2006-03-08: Received fax from Lisa Carrigan who generated a quote for a ROC table from Home Concepts. Same style, 24"x72" dimensions, no modesty panel.

  • 2006-03-02: Whiteboard mounted to wall in my office per request sent to John Kent.

  • 2006-03-01: Arranged with HVAC manager (Randy Sales) to disable the direct temperature control from the ROC thermostat. The setpoint is currently 70 F by software. The lowest available setpoint for our part of Wilson Hall is 68 F. Call x8031 if we have any problems.

  • 2006-02-17: Created HyperNews account. Subscribed to CERN Computing Announcements, Data Quality Monitoring Developments, Electronic Logbook Discussions, Visualization Discussion, Event Filter Development and Event Filter/DQM Announcements.

  • 2006-02-17: Obtained CERN computing and mail accounts. Faxed CMS registration form to CMS Secretariat (2 Feb 2006). Follow-up with CERN helpdesk (16 Feb 2006).

  • 2006-02-17: Fixed problem with pine taking 15 seconds from flxi02, flxi03 to connect to imapserver3, then rsh times out, and finally connects. Sent email to FNAL helpdesk, but they do not provide support for email applications. Found solution on CERN Mail FAQ under Pine rsh timeout. I changed rsh-open-timeout=0 in my .pinerc file in my home directory.

  • 2006-02-15: ROC Meetings are now part of the CMS Agenda Server.

  • 2006-02-15: Revamped ROC Web Page. Updated links. Simplified the html code. Revised mission statement. Added standard FNAL footer, archives, new photos, MTCC links, ROC Elog, Mailing list and Meetings. I plan to make this page the portal for users of the FNAL ROC.

  • 2006-02-10: Received office key (requisition submitted Jan 31st).

  • 2006-02-09: Created CMSROC mailing list. Kaori and I are list owners. Archived weekly. New member requests by owner. Archives and list members public. Private posting by list members.

  • 2006-02-08: CMS FNAL Remote Operations Center Logbook is now available. The first entry provides a brief overview for new users.

  • 2006-02-07: Joined USCMS mailing lists:  CMS_UAF_USERS, LPC-HOWTO, USCMS-ALL, USCMS-LPC.

  • 2006-02-06: Old email from Joe Boyd reminded me why I was having problems with 'setup' and 'pine' on fsui02.

  • 2006-02-03: Reconfigured .cshrc and .login files for FNALU cluster.

  • 2006-02-03: Electricians programmed hallway switch #6 to lights in office WH11W.

  • 2006-02-01: Discussed in detail with Shuichi Kunori the logbook options for CMS at FNAL. Many people are using KBook, which is based on the CRLW Logbook used by the DZero control room.

  • 2006-02-01: Transferred 10+ years of email folders to AFS, and configured with local version of Pine.

  • 2006-02-01: Created new web page on AFS.

  • 2006-01-31: Added to FNALU cluster.

  • 2006-01-31: AFS account created.

  • 2006-01-31: CMS account created.

  • 2005-01-30: Electrician replaced light bulbs in office WH11W.
