Fermilab Farm Testing Package

Network Load

NetTest 1 per hour
What Is It?
NetTest is a Fermi-Made program. It essensially transfers a file as big as you wish to the machine being tested. In order to not be affected by hard drive performance, the file is never actually written or read to hard drive.
Why test for this?
The Farm will be having files transferred to them around the 1 Gigabyte in size. We are testing the network to see if it will transfer these files at an acceptable speed.
Why this program?
It was small, quick to configure, and gave us the output we wanted.

Hard Drive Load

Bonnie : 1 per hour
What Is It?
Why test for this?
We need the hard drive to be able to have a consistent throughput for the harddrives.  They need to be able to keep up with the network, while at the same time, be able to give the CPU the data that it needs.
Why this program?

CPU & Memory Load

SetiAtHome : constantly
What Is It?
Why test for this?
When the farms are running at their normal pace, the CPU and Memory will be completely utilized.
Why this program?
We chose the SetiAtHome program because of two reasons.  First.  It uses as much CPU and Memory as you give it.  Second, it is similar to what the farms will be doing, which is going through a bunch of data, and looking for interesting points.
