KDE How-To - Switch Desktop Manager


There are at least two different ways to make KDE your default Desktop Manager.  Both ways are quite simple.  You can either do it by hand, or graphically.  After doing either you will then have to restart your X-Windows session.

By Hand

  1. echo "exec startkde" > $HOME/.Xclients
  2. chmod 755 $HOME/.Xclients


Graphically

  1. Start the Desktop Switching Tool (see below)
  2. Select 'KDE' (see below) (Selecting 'Change only applies to current display' is optional)
  3. Click on 'OK'
  4. 1. Start the Desktop Switching Tool

    2. Select KDE
