GRAPHICS
Back when I was one of the accelorator operators, I often was asked, how
do you know it's working? I loved to answer "We don't" even though
it wasn't true. We have all sorts of instruments and monitors setup
so that we can tell where the protons are. But high energy physics
isn't rocket science, it's harder. A rocket scientist get's to look
at his rocket with his own eyes. When he flips the on switch, there
is a rumble, flame, and hopefully something goes flying into the air. When
a high energy scientist flips the on switch, there is really nothing
he can look at unless he has rigged up some graphic display to show him something.
So let's look at some of those monitors and graphics.
