I'm a firm believer in the idea that if you have to do something on a computer more than three times, you
should write something to make it easier. I also understand the idea of 'why write code when someone else
already has', but the fact remains that the internet is a big place, and it often takes me more time to find a
script or program that it does to write one.
So here ya go. My collection of various tools, scripts, and programs that I've written to make life easier
and/or funner. Just one other note. Unless it says so, all of these things are written for linux.
Create_UltraDMA - Turn DMA on for your IDE hard drives
Install KDE2 - Install the latest KDE2 with one command
Misc Scripts - stuff I wrote to make like easier.
I am one of a team of three Administrators, that watch over and maintain the central Fermilab farm. There are currently
about 300 linux worker nodes. That number continues to grow, possibly reaching up to 600 by the end of next year. We had
searched all over the globe for various ways to manage these machines without going crazy.
After the latest layer of development dust had settled, we found that our tools had settled into two different areas.
First is the installation and configuration of a machine. The second is the monitoring and maintaining the system.
