Status of the MINERvA detector construction

The MINERvA detector is made up of 108 modular pieces. Each module is made up of a hexagonal "ring" of steel, some extra steel and or lead absorber, one or two planes of scintillator in the center of the ring, and a set (tower) of scintillator bars nested in each of 6 sides of the hexagonal ring of steel. Each scintillator plane is in turn made out of 5 planks which are themselves made up of rows of triangular scintillator nested together. Including all of the modules that will be made during the R&D phase of the experiment, we will make a total of 248 scintillator planes, 792 scintillator towers, and a total of 132 detector modules. The top plot at right shows how many planes' worth of planks, planes, and modules have been assembled versus time. The points are what we have achieved so far, and the lines are our projection showing how quickly we plan to make the remainder of the detector. The units for planks and planes are on the axis on the left, and the units for modules are on the axis on the right.

The bottom plot at right shows how many towers and modules have been assembled versus time. The towers are made in batches of 28 and then shipped from either the College of William and Mary or Hampton University to Fermilab. The yellow dots show the production, taking credit for partially produced towers, and the green dots show the number of completed towers which are then shipped out in batches. The module assembly (both achieved and projected) is also shown, as in the top plot.
