Alignment Procedure for Attenuation Tester

  1. Brace 2 ft. pipe into position. Disconnect monochromator. Put on pinhole.

  2. Align laser to go through pinhole and give a spot on the center of the far box hole.

  3. Position iris after stand for first lens. Close to a small hole and center on laser beam.

  4. Place 50 cm fl lens 1 3/4" from front wall. Steer beam to be centered on far end.

[At this point it is possible to place tubes into beam and see how much steering the tubes do.]

  5. Place 45o mirror and steer beam to center of second hole.

  6. Place lens 5 1/2" from far wall. Steer beam to center of hole.

  7. Close iris to 1" diameter.

  8. Check vertical aperature on exit of monochromator. Vertical slits should be centered and opening should be 1/4".

  9. Reconnect monochromator.
