Jim Volk Sept. 7, 2001 Dipoles for the muon spectrometer for MiniBoone There are four files .txt that contain the PANDRIA input files for the dipole models for the muon spectrometer. There are also .eps files that have postscript cross-sections of the magnets. All dimensions are in inches Dipole1 is a 1-inch gap magnet with 2" x 6" top and bottom bricks and 2" x 4" side bricks The field is 3.9 KiloGauss Dipole3 is a 1-inch gap with 1" x 4" side bricks and 2" x 6" top and bottom bricks Dipole5 is an 0.8" gap with 2" x 2" side bricks and 2" x 6" top bricks Dipole6 is an 0.8" gap magnet with 2" by 0.5" Nd Iron magnets on the top and side the field is 4.1 KiloGauss Update May 28,2002 There are two new files that have models of the most recent ideas for the dipole. mbdip2 is a 1.5 inch gap manget with ferrite derated for temperature compensator material. It has a field of 1.95 Kilo Gauss there is a gap in the top and bottom bricks for compensator materail. This magnet also has side bricks to increase the field. The PDF file MBDIP201 has a cross section of this magnet mbdip4 is a 1 inch gap magnet with 4.5 inch thick pole pieces it has a field of 2.68 kiloGauss. This magnet also uses ferrite. The thicker pole pieces allow for more side bricks and hence more central field. The PDF file MBDIP401 shows a cross section of this magnet. There is yeat another idea of adding more ferrite at the ends of the magnet to increase the central field. This model is still in the works.
