Upper Figure: Sky coverage in Galactic coordinates
The SFD reddening map in shown Galactic coordinates; note the center is shifted to (l,b) = (120,0). Magenta lines (plus Red line) indicate new SEGUE scans to be obtained, 10 vertical stripes plus 5 partial vertical stripes plus three 'previously unobserved' SDSS stripes s72, s79, s90. Note: SEGUE Imaging and Spectroscopy has already been begun, regions completed are indicated with Green (lines or spectroscopic dots). Red line (node, incl) = (32, 35) indicates path of Sagittarius dwarf tidal stream (imaging part of this strip is proposed). Magenta sinusoidal lines indicates (possible, partial) path of Monoceros dwarf tidal stream (imaging 1 strip only for these two is proposed as calibration cross checks), (node,incl) = (259.9, 43.2), (325.1, 50.81). These two strips cross at the location of M31. Black lines indicate existing or planned (blue = fill the gap) SDSS regular imaging. No SEGUE imaging or spectroscopy occurs at a Declination of < -20 degrees (cyan dotted line). Blue circles indicate individual 3 degree diameter positions of Galactic structure plate pairs (bright plate 1 hr exposures, faint plate 2 hr exposure), ~174 total plate pairs. Yellow circles indicate positions of 'special plates', landing on known open cluster, the Sag. dwarf stream, or the Monoceros Ring structure. Approx ~15 total plate pairs.
Lower Figure: Plate Distribution in RA
Upper panel: Distribution in RA and DEC of the 196 SEGUE plates (blue = main struture, yellow = special). Lower panel: Distribution in RA of 196 SEGUE plates. 120 * 2.6 = 312 hours exposure time in the 'fall/winter months Jul-Dec' 77 * 2.6 = 200 hours exposure time in the 'spring/summer months Jan-Jun'. The latter 200 plate-equivalents potentially overlaps with continued regular SDSS spectroscopic observations in the North Galactic cap.
