Subaru Collaborators, sorry for the delay in processing the FOCAS/MOS images, but I think I have made some progress now, and the design can proceed (perhaps with slight changes). I matched the 6 SUBARU imaging fields up to the SDSS imaging fields and transformed the coordinates of the SDSS detections onto the SUBARU fields. Then I 'culled' the matched objects in color (fields 1-4: g-r_0 < 0.9 or fields 5-6: g-r_0 < 0.6) magnitude ( fields 1-4: 18 < g < 23, fields 5-6: 18 < g < 22.1) and removed most (not all) extended objects (galaxies). This left us with the following numbers of objects in the six fields: Field 1: 39 Field 2: 35 Field 3: 41 Field 4: 46 Field 5: 58 Field 6: 62 This is still too many for a 'clean' slitmask, I presume, so I'm willing to whittle it down further, but I wanted to get this set of targets out so that the Sextractor, or whatever program that designs the slit masks can be tried. I didn't include yet any bright 'reference stars'. What do we need here? How many and how bright? The target lists now may be found on the web page: http://home.fnal.gov/~yanny/subaru/index.html Under: Targets for Field 1 Targets for Field 2 etc... These links give an ASCII table with: x (pixel) y RA (J2000) DEC run r c fld id g' g_0 g-r_0 Where: x y pixel position, is the pixel position of the object on the LONG (180s) SUBARU exposure (ss_f1l, ss_f2l, ss_f3l, etc) for each field. The x,y pixels have been re-centered on the stellar object, and so they should be directly 'feedable' into the 'mask designer' program. If they are not, let me know and I can help. RA, DEC is RA DEC. run-r-c-fld-id is the SDSS id for each object g' is the SDSS g' magnitude for the object (we want spectra with coverage from about 3900-4900A CaK - Hbeta if we can get it) g_0 is the de-reddened g' magnitude g-r_0 is the de-reddened g-r color. F stars have about 0.1 < g-r_0 < 0.3. +============== Please note that I didn't put any bright 'reference stars' into this list yet, please let me know what we need here, and also if there are other things I can do to make the mask creation easier, i.e. cull down to a smaller number of objects, add more objects, etc.., add more information, etc. =======
