Assembly of the compact 16-mm hollow electron sources (CHG-16-sc-e)

CERN Machine Shop clean room, Building 100. Meyrin, Switzerland, March 14, 2019.

Two new compact hollow electron sources for the HL-LHC electron lenses were assembled at CERN, one for the CERN test stand and one to be characterized at Fermilab. The electron gun is based upon a 16-mm scandate cathode with convex surface manufactured by the Beijing Vacuum Electronics Research Institute. The design of the electron-gun body and support is more compact than previous versions. This type of gun is named CHG-16-sc-e (CERN hollow gun, 16 mm, scandium cathode, evolution).
